Just got back from SaaStr where I spoke at the AI Demo Stage showcasing Databar.ai's latest AI agent. My slogan for the conference is: "seeing my whole LinkedIn feed in a single room".

Was amazing to see our partners & friends Dennis, Michael, Emmanuel from Ocean.io, Elliot & Ben from People Data Labs, Amir from CloudTask, Chris from Crustdata (YC F24), Danil from Go Global World,  Allen from Wappalyzer, and Zhenya + many other friends & colleagues!

Here's what I saw while I was there for the week:
- Living in SF feels like you're at a tech conference 24/7 - everyone either works at, founded, or invests in startups - everywhere you go you hear people talking shop
- Several high quality meetups & events where you can meet potential clients and investors are happening every day
- You can bump into people you know in the most random places. Emre from Waterfall.io randomly spotted me on the street even though we only had Zoom calls before!

The biggest take-away for me was seeing how AI will impact day-to-day lives across the world. 
It really hit me when I took a Waymo instead of an Uber. These cars really drive like humans - living in Europe you think self-driving taxis and such are gimmicks, but they aren't - automation is already happening in a big way!

I also met a bunch of companies building in the application layer of AI - vertical solutions that solve customer pains can be developed faster than ever before. More importantly the infrastructure layer of AI seems like a massive opportunity that's not talked about in social media as much!

Also learned a lot about how companies are streamlining GTM efforts with AI (more on this later!) and the main challenges companies are facing in implementation.

Raising funds for first-time founders is hard. We tried to go down the venture route in our first 2 years, but investors passed. So at some point, we said 'f*** it', and bootstrapped. 

We took in some money from angels and Mucker Capital, which have been extremely helpful, but the amount we've raised is still tiny for the type and complexity of product we're building.

Yet somehow, we're still growing like crazy - 10x last year, and it looks like we'll do another 5x this year!

How? 
- Amazing friends, customers, and advisors who support us along the way, and an incredible team which punches 10x above its weight (you don't need VCs for that - only persistence, being open to opportunities, and hard work!)

- Find growth hacks that don't cost gazillions of dollars. There are free platforms like Product Hunt , etc. where you can list your product and get users.

- Cold outreach still works! Message your ICP (and be shameless about it!). 90% will ignore, but the 10% that reads about your product might be the push that you need.

- SEO is a long game, but one that's free if you get it set up the right way. Right now we're getting over ~3k leads every month from programmatic SEO without spending any money.

- Don't hire engineers in the US - find talent in Europe & Asia. They are a fraction of the cost and (at least in our experience) 3x better (+ my friend Steven can help with this!).

- Build a community around your product. Users who are bought into your journey will support you 10x more than any paid promoter.

To all the founders out there thinking you need VCs to grow - Databar.ai is proof that you don't!

"Build an MVP" is overrated advice. I think, you either: 
A. Go all-in and build a functioning product from conversations you've had/data/gut feeling/whatever drives you
B. Create a landing page (a pre-MVP) & run ads to book calls will potential customers

Option A is the high risk option, but if you're right, you're right big. Doesn't mean you have to build something complex, but whatever you put out needs to be functional on an ongoing basis.

If you're building an MVP to then raise money from VCs, I think it makes more sense to go with option B & spend the engineering budget on marketing.

This way, you have a full pipeline ready to pay for a fully functioning product, which might just be better validation than an MVP that retains 10% of users + you'll know if the idea resonates with people, and if it does, you might even know what your customer acquisition cost will be (bonus!).

I might be wrong 🤷‍♂️ who knows

This one thing dropped our activation rate by 90%!

About 6 months ago, we added a pop-up in Databar.ai workspaces requiring users to start a free trial to access the full suite of functionality. The pop-up was actually a dummy, you could still use Databar on a free plan.

Our hypothesis?
By asking for a commitment upfront (trial or credit card), we’d filter for users truly interested in buying our service. These users, being more invested, would be more likely to hit the “Aha!” moment and eventually upgrade.

What actually happened:
The pop-up disrupted the user journey. Here’s how users behaved:

	1.	Upgraded immediately (minority) — Most didn’t even try the product first.
	2.	Followed the intended journey (larger minority) — Set up their first table and hit the “Aha!” moment.
	3.	Dropped off immediately (second-largest group).
	4.	Explored API integrations only (majority) — They bypassed the core product entirely and eventually churned.

In essence, the pop-up turned off users who could have converted after hitting the “Aha!” moment and confused others into straying from the core experience.

The result:
We removed the pop-up. Now, 92% of new sign-ups set up at least one enrichment after signing up. That's a 5-minute fix that drove a MAJOR improvement.

Key takeaways:
If you’re introducing a free trial, make it all or nothing. 

Don’t give users alternative paths that let them bypass the trial and stray into suboptimal journeys. It dilutes the experience and keeps them from seeing the real value of your product.

Never ask a user to commit before they understand the value of your product!

If you’re gating functionality upfront, ensure the user already knows what they’re getting — whether that’s through tutorials, demos, or strong word of mouth. Otherwise, let them experience the product first.

If you're going through a PLG motion then build your product around that motion. Ensure that every step of the journey is clear as day & accurately tracked!

Jaguar's rebrand has the potential to be one of the best PR stunts in recent history. 

Or at least it'll be the greatest experiment of the saying "Any marketing is good marketing".

In my view, Jaguar isn't really a 'mainstream' luxury brand in a way that BMW & Mercedes are. 

They put out a controversial ad > got millions of eyeballs on it. Basically, generated a huge 'top of funnel'. 

Now all they need to do is put out a good car that people want & convert at least some of those eyeballs into customers. 

Even if 90% of people hate the rebrand and their new line-up, I'm sure the other 10% might think "this is actually not a bad car.."

Perhaps something like this wouldn't work for a popular brand like BMW, but with Jaguar, which has slowly faded over the years? Why not!

Databar.ai ended up with #5 of the day Product Hunt yesterday, thank you to everyone who supported us it means a lot!! In case anyone else is planning a launch, here are a few things to look out for (if we had known these things, I think we could've ended up with the #1 spot):

- If your "About this launch" says "Posted" instead of "Featured", consider re-scheduling the launch and message their support about switching it to "Featured". The screenshots below show the difference - Toolbox got featured, we didn't (until we got the Product Hunt team to switch).

- Don't use the word "spreadsheet", "template", or anything along those lines in your description - that'll make their moderators think that you're launching a template or boilerplate (which will make them un-feature you).

- Try to work with a good hunter who will know these things and prepare you accordingly. This change is a relatively recent one though so many still don't know about it.

Regarding everything else I think there are already plenty of materials out there. :) And as Jared Robin ⏭ said, don't expect Product Hunt to be your GTM strategy!

We launched on Product Hunt, got more upvotes than most others (135 upvotes in 3 hours), and yet somehow we can’t even be found on the site. 

How?
Apparently Product Hunt now pre-selects which companies will be Featured and which won’t.

Hope this serves as a cautionary tale to others who want to launch there.

1. Showcase Platform & New Developments

Since the initial website launch, Databar has evolved from a company exploring product-market fit across various industries into a powerhouse for prospecting and outbound operations. We have built:

- More than 100 pre-built web scrapers for efficient data collection
- Our Chrome extension for gathering data from any site (free forever)
- And much more…

Our new website is designed to showcase the full scope of our product.

2. Leveraging Partnerships and Logos

We’ve added a multitude of new partnerships with leading tools and data providers.

Now, we’re displaying our partnership logos and integrations more prominently.

This change is designed to help our customers easily identify the tools available within Databar, understand how Databar integrates with their existing tech stack, and discover how it can enhance their current setup.

3. Intentional Branding and Communication

We've evolved to tell a more compelling story on our website.

We've studied market leaders, identified what resonates, and developed a solution that combines best practices with our value proposition.

Agents seemed like a black box to me when they came out at first, but once I figured out how they work I realized it's just a bunch of "mini GPTs" that get called depending on what needs to be done.

In case anyone's wondered how agents work:
You have a chain of "AIs" that accomplish very specific tasks and you call them based on what you need to do. 

For example, if you want to scrape a specific website, you might have just one agent in a flow that looks something like:

Use a scraper to fetch a website's HTML > Clean up the HTML to get the pure content > Send that content to an Agent that extracts what you're looking for.

If you're doing something more complicated, like asking your "AI scraper" to visit multiple pages, you might add Agents in between those steps to decide what to do next. 

For example, after the Agent extracts data from the web page, you might have one more Agent that checks if the result corresponds to the initial prompt. If not, you ask it to pick a link to visit next. 

Then you repeat the above steps... and so on

It's pretty powerful stuff, but also relatively easy to build. I'm curious how AI companies will differentiate themselves when an agent can be built over a weekend. 

Soon (or maybe this is already being done today?) you'll have agents creating other agents. Creating an "AI startup" could take a couple days.

Our view on this at Databar.ai is that 
A) UI matters. Having an agent is one thing, being able to use it effectively is another.
B) The right integrations make agents 10x more powerful. 
C) Having high quality data to feed into those agents is a differentiator that takes time to build
D) Just creating an agent is not enough - they need to be optimized for scale, speed, and accurate results

We'll see how the industry shapes up, I'm both excited and terrified at the same time.

We deleted 300 connectors from the Databar.ai API Library & it was painful 😬. Here's why we did it:

When we built Databar v1 3yrs ago, we knew that the spreadsheet interface for third party data would be valuable, but we didn't quite figure out the best use case yet. 

So, our hypothesis was this:
We'll add connectors from different niches and see what sticks.

We built an automated system which let us add a new API integration in <20 mins & started connecting everything from crypto & financial data, to sports, and company/email data.

At one point, we even had Pokemon & Anime APIs on our site (talk about being focused 😅). 

Even though it was all over the place, our hypothesis was kind of right - we really did figure out which connectors stuck and which didn't (although looking back, there probably were easier ways to prove that hypothesis).

We saw that people were interested in 3 categories of data: company/b2b data, crypto & financial data, and sports data. Everything else had to go in the 🗑️ 

Crypto & financial data had many potential customers, but check sizes were relatively low + there were many amazing platforms available already, like TradingView, that had an all-in-one solution.

Sports/betting data was interesting too - an emerging market with many potential customers. But, this group wanted to have a ready solution that spits out charts & metrics, rather than a modular spreadsheet/automation tool.

Customers focused on outbound/GTM stood out the most for us. That's where we got our first large subscription $$$s and the most engaged users. 

GTM teams need a lot of data to run their motions, keep CRMs fresh, and power personalization at scale + the modularity of Databar meant our platform could be used with the same user journey across different verticals.

It was a perfect match. The problem was that we had already connected ~600 APIs (this was 2.5 years ago), and didn't want to delete them "in case" we discover an amazing use case.

It was not wise to do so - our true ideal customers were getting confused by random unrelated connectors, and the platform itself was trying to solve all problems without solving any single one perfectly.

Eventually we deleted all of the old connectors we had on Databar, and it made the product 10x better. It's now more focused than ever, and we have the capacity to add & maintain amazing new integrations that our customers love.

We learned, the hard way: remove the fat whenever you can! Turning a new page is important & holding onto work you've done in the past is a bad habit that may be slowing your growth.

What tools do people use for onboarding emails? 
We've been using Brevo, but aren't too happy with it, are there better alternatives out there? 🤔

New customers who see an active and thriving community are more likely to buy into your tool. They can also see - in a more active & trustworthy way - who's actually behind the software. 

𝟰. 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 👋
We've had more and more cases where users would answer the questions of other users. We didn't incentivize any of that, and it's amazing when this happens. This is a big part of our community we want to expand on so users start sharing use cases, templates, and content with each other.

There are many other benefits to building a community, which I didn't list here.

Why do people like Slack so much? 
I think it's such an inconvenient messenger: I can't reply to a message (unless I create a thread), can't view messages past 90 days unless I'm paying a fortune, voice calls aren't great, and most importantly you can only DM someone out of a specific workspace (who came up with that logic?!). We've been using Discord for all of Databar.ai's communications and we've been loving it. Am I missing something?

Even with a team of engineers, it would take someone many months to build something as fast and efficient as this. Big shout to the Databar.ai team for the hard work!

Product analytics is a difficult, but extremely important part of building any saas. Here's how we started analyzing user personas and partially solved the issue of bad data in onboarding flows.

When setting up product analytics for Databar.ai, we added an onboarding flow which asks a few simple questions:
- how did you find Databar?
- what do you do/what does your work entail?
- what are you looking accomplish with Databar?

Some users when signing up simply pick the first option in drop-downs, leaving us with bad data that we can't accurately use for our decision making. So in the question "how did you find Databar?" we added TechCrunch as the first option in the drop-down menu. 

The catch is, there are no articles about Databar on TechCrunch. Now when we analyze our data, we know which answers to give less/more weight. :)

Response rates climb. Meetings happen. Deals close faster.

2. They personalize with data that matters

Average sales reps gather surface-level information that prospects don't care about.

The 1% research genuine pain points by pulling:

- Growth metrics
- Relevant case studies
- Customer reviews mentioning problems

Then they use these insights to make prospects feel truly understood using the prospect's language.

3. They know which data points predict success

The best prospectors don't measure by vanity metrics.

They analyze their best customers and identify surprising patterns that actually predict success.

Sometimes it's not company size, industry, or tech stack that matters most.

It might be having a specific team structure or growth pattern.

When you know which data points truly predict buying intent, you can build workflows to identify these exact setups at scale.

The difference between mediocre and exceptional prospecting results isn't about catchy subject lines or clever follow-ups.

3. Grade 5-6 Language Only

Ditch the complex vocabulary. Writing at a Grade 5-6 level consistently beats "professional" language and corporate speak.

4. Research-First Hook

Lead with ONE targeted observation about their business. Generic openings get instant deletions. Personalization and relevance are non-negotiable.

5. Problem Statement Follow-up

Timing and precision matter. Your problem statement must show you grasp their specific challenges at this moment.

6. 2-3 Word Subject Lines

"Featured" vs. "Posted" - this small status difference cost us precious hours of visibility. Your launch needs to say "Featured," not "Posted." It seems like Product Hunt selects tools to be featured pre-launch. We lost 12+ critical hours of momentum before getting this fixed and listed under the featured spots.

Tip: Consider rescheduling your launch if it says "Posted."

2. Word choice matters more than you think

The most surprising blocker? Certain words seem to trigger automatic filters. "Spreadsheet" and "template" in your description can actually get you unfeatured.

3. Hunter selection is important

Pick someone who knows the latest changes. The rules evolve frequently, and even experienced hunters might miss new requirements.

The results?

- #5 Product of the Day
- 400+ upvotes
- But: I believe we could have been #1 with these learnings applied.

REALITY CHECK:

Product Hunt isn't a GTM strategy - but it can be a nice boost.

Our best conversions didn't come from PH directly - they came from the LinkedIn and Twitter discussions that followed.

Next time? If we launch again, we'll do it differently.

I called my prospect a "low priority lead" on a demo.

He called me out,

A few months ago, I was demoing Extrovert to a potential buyer. On my own production account.

I was clicking through features,
showing our lead lists

Suddenly he goes: Hey, there I am! Under "Low Priority Leads"

I freeze.
My face goes red 😅

But he laughs and goes
“It’s cool. It’s just math.”

Thought about that line for a while.

We’re told not to treat leads like cells in spreadsheets.

And sure, if you only have 10 possible customers on earth, that’s true.

But to reach thousands of people with a SaaS product that starts at $35/mo…

You need systems, workflows, categorize, prioritize. 

Kinda HAVE TO treat prospects like cells in spreadsheets.

But to be honest I think, weirdly enough, BOTH extremes are dead.

→ Mass automation is dead. People ignore stuff harder than ever.
→ Pure "human, handwritten, authentic" approach is dead too. Write perfectly-personalized DMs for hours, you’ll reach 5 people a day. That’s fine if you’re selling nuclear reactors. Not so much for low ticket SaaS.

There's a weird middle ground where teams are innovating and winning:

→ They’re building mini-content engines for their entire org
→ They're using AI to remember context across dozens of touchpoints. Every interaction builds on the last one, even when managing hundreds of relationships
→ They're turning reps into relationship managers who own accounts for months
→ They don’t handle "not now" as "lost forever."

My prospect was right.
"It’s just math."

But if you get the math right,
the outcome is actually more human than what came before.

We're moving from a world where you had to choose between reaching 10 people deeply or 10,000 people shallowly.

Most big creators I know have a "mutual support circle". Many use spreadsheets. Some use VAs or pods. I automated the work (but kept the love human!). Here’s my workflow and the script:

It's summer. 

Reach is SH*T.

Building a mutual support network of people who comment on your posts consistently is a really big unlock here - helps a lot.

But that’s not easy to do at scale and still keep it real.
→ Pods are so fake, I just can’t.
→ Spending manually 1hr per day, tracking everything in spreadsheets might seem decent, but damn tedious, and by week 2, I forget to even open them.
→ VAs… my ADHD can barely onboard myself, let alone try to train a human helper

Instead:
→ I auto track every creator who comments on my posts
→ I support their stuff back, consistently
They appreciate it, they show up again later, and more often than not it even turns into business

Here’s how the flow works:

1️⃣ Step 1. Grab everyone who comments on your posts
→ I use n8n for this (Zapier-style builder, but waaaay more flexible).
→ The thing runs every day and grabs my latest posts, pulls all unique commenters on those posts, and adds the profiles into my "friends" list in Extrovert.
→ No manual list management, no spreadsheets, no VAs
(I mean I like VAs, but I haven’t found one that loves memes as much as I do..)

2️⃣ Step 2. Pull their posts into Extrovert custom feed
I can see every post my support circle has made, with a summary, sorted, and ready to go

3️⃣ Step 3. Set frequency to "just enough"
Anyone who comments on my stuff gets a comment back every third day (ish), just enough to keep us both visible

4️⃣ Step 4. Approve, re‑write or post the comment Extrovert drafts for me
It's already learned my writing style from the 10k+ comments I’ve done… so now most of its stuff sounds like me. But most of the time I still manually correct things.

I had a convo with one of the users the other day, he asked for a better mobile experience for Extrovert.

I was a bit surprised - it's not a very common feedback for a b2b nurturing tool.

But his argument made a ton of sense - he's doing it at the gym.

Between sets, he’s out there, showing up in his prospects’ LinkedIn comments.

Because that’s the only time of the day when no one calls or slacks him. No distractions, he can just swipe, drop some value, maybe dunk a few jokes.

Or just hit: approve, approve, reject, approve.

Which honestly is how it should feel. 

EASY. 

FUN.

But if it’s some freaking nightmare workflow with 12 tabs open, sales nav, click here to open an account, log your activity, open a doc, open a post, come up with a clever reply, then log it again...

Eeeevery single person on Earth is going to quit halfway. Just not going to happen.

Nurturing shouldn't be "I'm gonna CRUSH sales today" deep work ritual.

If it’s easy, your team will do it pretty often.

If it’s funny, they'll look forward to it (at least a little bit).

Here’s how AI changed our company

(it's boring as hell)

I recently noticed how LLMs are changing the dev game for startups (at least for us, big time), and it's not the vibe coding, “agents kill SaaS” headlines, or the two-day DocuSign clones.

When we started Extrovert, our dev team looked like a lot of early technical teams:

Only 3 people.
No classic “technical cofounder.”
Energetic, motivated, good. But not industry legends with 20-year resumes.

My plan: Once we had traction, we’d bring in a heavyweight CTO to guide the ship (we'll most def hit the technical ceiling).

Our lead engineer agreed. He wanted someone senior he could learn from, bounce off, chase.

That was a year ago.

Here’s what I realised last week: Neither of us cares as much anymore.

Now, if our team gets a technical challenge that’s beyond us, we're not stuck. They just iterate with an LLM and figure it out.

So I asked my team lead about his part of the plan: if it feels limiting for him to work without a stronger dev in the team.

“Nope,” he says. “My opinion changed during the last year. I feel less like I need it. I’m still learning. From LLMs. I get smarter every week.”

That’s it. That’s one of the weirdly boring, non-shouty ways LLMs are going to change tech.

Now there’s a whole category of startups without a technical founder or a heavyweight CTO that can make it to 50 people, millions in ARR, before they hit a technical brick wall.

Maybe 5x bigger than before. Not vibe code, not “anyone can dev,” but normal, driven teams with a normal skills gap, the ceiling is just way farther away (and waaay cheaper to hit) than in 2024.

But here’s what ISN’T changing:

I side with Yann LeCun here: hallucinations and context window issues are fundamental to LLM base architecture and imply SERIOUS limitations.

TAKEAWAY: LLMs kill the ceiling for talented teams, but only if you know where to look. Realize the invisible, boring shift and use it to do stuff that was not possible before.

Am I missing something?

You can’t automate authenticity, but you can absolutely turn relationships into a systematic business asset with clear ROI. This is how we built it:

Most teams (us too, for years) see relationships as "nice to have"

Sales, marketing, and customer success play a sad game of Hot Potato -
Some lucky deals land, others get squashed, some, you know, fall under the fridge or whatever.

What we learned:
If you track your relationships like you track your pipeline - it prints money.

Here’s the model we ended up with after 12+ months testing hundreds of little tweaks.

1️⃣ Sales pipeline

If you’re working an active deal, you’re touching base every week: likes, helpful comments, soft DMs.

If the deal says "Not Now" you fade back to a bi-monthly touch, but never go away fully. We win 20%+ of those, months later, because we’re still top of mind.

2️⃣ Prospecting warm-up
Warming up cold leads (before you blast DMs):
→ Give regular posters 2–5 weeks of comments, then fire the sequence
→ (Reply rates go from 10% to 50%. Not a typo.)

→ Small lurker companies: ignore ‘em, direct sequence
→ Big lurker companies: Don’t quit!
Many CxO profiles are “postless”
But if you track which thought leaders they follow,
You can just hang out in those comments - and land in their feed anyway

3️⃣ Personal brands for everyone customer-facing
→ Comment on big creators in your space (Topic Based)
→ Comment on 10-50 friendly creators who actually support you (Weekly Support, even if it’s not your topic)

Your product analytics show you who to get in touch with.
Now use relationship tracking systems to do it instead of ad hoc vibes.

Weekly nudges/congrats/tag-ins

→ Churn risk
Don’t let them go dark! Slow rhythm, but you keep showing up. Or someone else lands the expansion instead of you.

5️⃣ Why and how does this work?

It works for the same reason CS, sales, prospecting, brand all work. They make people more familiar with you over time, so it’s easier to close, renew, or refer.

→ Tracking all this is easier with tech (we use our own).
→ Getting buy-in is a leadership thing, not a rep thing.
→ Habits beat sprints.
→ Only works as a system.
→ It only works at scale.

There are three different types of comments.

Most people never even try the second two:

LinkedIn commenting can be ridiculously powerful, but only if you know what you’re actually trying to accomplish. 

There are three specific ways to comment if you want to actually drive outcomes for yourself or your team. Each one does something completely different for you:

1️⃣ Game 1: Visibility Commenting

→ Goal: 
You want to get discovered by a lot of new people.

→ Who: 
You do this by commenting on big influencers or anyone who has the feeds of your ideal customers. 

Could be software founders, VCs, sales influencers, etc. These people have bigger followings and their posts get a lot of views every day.

→ How: 
Your comment should be really thoughtful and "add to the conversation." If their post has a great point, add a story about how you experienced the same thing. Give an example. Make a witty joke that people pile on. 

The point: Make your comment about the audience, not the author. People seeing you here are complete strangers. You want them curious to check your profile.

→ Why: 
Comments on big, relevant posts can get you as many views as your own posts-with one-fifth the time spent. 

A comment that goes mini‑viral is the single best way to get direct profile views from the right audience. You’ll see your own followers bump every week if you do this consistently.

2️⃣ Game 2: Nurturing Commenting

→ Goal: 
You want to stay present and "top of mind" with leads/pipeline people you already know, or want to know.

→ Who: 
Your focus is ideally on a few hundred people in your target market. 

(Cold leads, previous demo calls, current opportunities, lost customers, or people you want to partner with.) 

→ How: 
Write something that sounds uniquely like you. Pretend you’re replying to them on Slack. 

(My trick: add an inside joke, a recent reference, or a detail buried deep in their post. They’ll notice.)

→ Why: 

People forget you 99x faster than you think. 10 days go by and it’s like you never existed. 

Strategic comments here will remind them not just that you’re around, but that you "get" their world, their business, and what they care about. 

3️⃣ Game 3: Support Circle Commenting

→ Goal: 
You want to build support your LinkedIn buddies, and they will support you back.

→ Who: 
You’re focusing on a handful of people who create content. Maybe it’s people who write really good stuff. Or people who you just want to see win. 

These aren’t leads or prospects. Support here is the goal itself.

→ How: 
Show up generously, add context, be memorable, make their posts better and funnier and more credible. 

Sometimes, just show up as a cheerleader saying, "Yes, preach."

→ Why: 
This is your "crew on LinkedIn." You win when they win. You get opportunities, you build goodwill.

For the past month, we’ve been running real AI voice fine-tuning tests with a few customers.

It’s the first time I can say: good AI copy is now completely impossible to spot.

At Extrovert, we obsess over the quality of those AI drafts.

Our users aren’t clueless about what to say. They absolutely can write their own comments. Very sharp, experienced people. 

They just need to move fast. Nobody (especially founders or sales folks) has 2 hours to spend on LinkedIn every day to "add value".

So draft quality is the bottleneck.

To get it right, you need two things:
→ Context (understanding who you are, what you care about)
→ Voice (writing it exactly how you talk)

We’ve done a pretty good job on context. Extrovert pulls in all the details: your facts, POVs, details about you and your company, insights.

But getting the VOICE side right was way harder.

Everyone who has used ChatGPT or Claude, knows it. You paste a ton of examples. You say, “write like me”.

But the result still sounds weird, same annoying "baked in" patterns.

So when I see people say they “trained their GPT” - no, they didn’t.

We actually fine-tune the model on real writing samples. It modifies the model itself instead of just tweaking instructions. 

This isn’t something most people can access from the ChatGPT UI (You have to poke the API)

We shipped it as a feature, and that’s how Ash did his 100-comment sprint.

Just approve, approve, approve, done.

People love to say they can always tell apart an AI copy:
- Em dashes everywhere
- Robotic tone
- Just repeats what the post said

But that’s only bad AI.

If the voice sounds like you and the context is sharp, humans can’t tell the difference.

TAKEAWAY
I still don’t believe in autopilot for AI in sales. There should always be a human in the loop, for good reason. But… copy quality is now at the point where you can't really tell. New reality.

I used to think commenting was useless if prospects didn’t post. Turns out, if you track who they react to, you can show up in their feeds anyway:

There are a ton of lurkers on LinkedIn.

People who never post, but scroll every day, hitting Like on someone else’s stuff.

This drove me nuts for years.

No way we can use comments to nurture them (this gives us a MASSIVE edge).

For a long time, I believed there was nothing you could do about it.
No posts = no way in.

But it turns out there’s a workaround hiding in plain sight.

Here’s what we figured out:

→ If your prospect is reacting to another creator’s posts
→ ...their feed will keep showing more from that person
→ And when you comment on those posts,
your face pops up right where they look.

We built LinkedIn cold sequence that has a 40%+ reply rate, and the biggest unlock wasn’t copy or targeting. It was TIMING. Steal our framework:

We ran a bunch of A/B tests, tried tools, templates, and “personalization hacks.”
All that stuff helped a little. 
But the thing that juiced reply rates from 5% to 40% was simple:  

Just slow down.

Here’s the exact sequence that’s outperforming everything else for us:

PHASE 1: WARM-UP (1-4 weeks)

Just comment on their posts, as a normal human.  
Just a few friendly, thoughtful comments over a week or two.  
Longer if it’s enterprise or you have a small TAM.

Goal:  
Get your name and face in their feed before you connect.

PHASE 2: CONNECTION REQUEST

Send a blank request.  
If you warmed them up, you’re not a stranger.  
(We see 30%+ more accepts with blank requests vs. “personalized” ones.)

PHASE 3: POST-CONNECTION NURTURING (3 days to 4 weeks)

Now, pause.  
Keep commenting, but don’t DM yet
If you post content, let them see it.
If they engage with your comments, LinkedIn will show them more of your posts (algorithm magic)
If you post: great, give it a week or a month. 
If you don’t: wait about 3 days.  

This is when 15-20% will message you first.  
And if they don’t, you still look like a normal, non-pitchy person.  

PHASE 4: DM SEQUENCE

Message 1: Short opener.  
No pitch. Just start a convo. Maybe a question.
Some people will reply to this because they hate "pitch slap" DMs.

Message 2: Value prop.  
Now you can say why you reached out.  
Keep it specific to them.  
A lot of people ignore the first message, but answer this one.

Messages 3 & 4: Value follow-ups.  
Wait 7-10 days between each.  
Each follow-up should give actual value:  
Resource, tip, or insight.  
Never “just checking in.”

Keep commenting weekly the whole time.

PHASE 5: RESPONSE HANDLING

If they reply:  
Move to manual closing phase.  
Don’t stop commenting.

If they don’t reply:  
Stop DMing.  
If they’re a VIP or the TAM is small, consider putting them into long-term nurture.  
If not, move on.

PHASE 6: LONG-TERM NURTURE

For “not now” or “not big enough yet” folks:

Comment every month or so.  
Share useful resources every couple months (DM them with big company updates or wins)  
This can go on for months (sometimes quarters).

WHY THIS WORKS

The data is simple:

Standard cold outreach = 8-10% reply rate.  
This nurture sequence = 40-50% reply rate.

It works even better with busy execs who ignore everything else.

Don’t rush. Let the sequence do the work.

I’ve left 4,000+ comments this year, and the more I nerd out, the more I realize I’m not just “being social”, but running 8 different plays (steal them):

For a long time, I just winged it - scrolling the feed, saying something halfway smart, and moving on.

Some days it worked. Most of the time it felt like busywork.

Here are the 8 different comment workflows I run every week:

1️⃣ Warming up cold prospects
DMs to strangers don’t work.
So, I add 100-200 targets to a prospect list and comment 2-4 times, naturally, on their stuff the next 2 weeks.
Wait at least 2-5 days post-connection before messaging.
If you stick to this, reply rates pop to 40%+, and a big chunk of people actually message you first.

2️⃣ Nurturing active opportunities
During a sales cycle, velocity is key.
I make a “Hot Deals” list and comment at least weekly.
People don’t always reply, but do notice you’re around.

3️⃣ Reviving ghosted leads
I keep a monthly “Icebox” list - accounts that went cold, plus one new contact from the same company.
If you show up lightly and non‑desperately, at some point, someone will reply again. 
We get like ~20-25% reactivation rate.

4️⃣ Staying in touch with “not now” accounts
Many buyers are “just not now.”
I drop them into a follow‑up list, then say something brief and nice every month or so.
When they’re ready, I'm the first person they think of.

5️⃣ Keeping current customers close
Everyone expects you to disappear after closing. 
They’re shocked (and happy) if you actually show up.
It helps to reduce churn and upsell naturally.

6️⃣ Building relationships with partners
Every 2-3 weeks, comment with use cases, counter-examples, or suggest new ideas.

7️⃣ Getting seen with “Top Voices”
If I want to get my narrative in front of their audiences, I write “mini‑posts” under any influential post that’s related to my thing.
Simple rule: I don’t go for posts with 500+ comments, but find posts with 15-30 engaged comments - far easier to stand out.

8️⃣ Supporting friendly creators
Creators and LinkedIn homies who show up whenever I post.
If they comment first, I do the same for their stuff - even if the topic is not exactly my thing.

TAKEAWAY

There is no such thing as “just comment often and good things happen.”. Better to treat it as multiple workflows, running in parallel.

I was burning 15+ hours every week in Claude + ChatGPT, hating my own founder playbooks, so I started “vibe coding” all my big B2B copy in Cursor, like I’m deploying production code, and it’s the only thing that’s made my blog/lead magnets not read like watery, AI-generated garbage.

Last week I tried something weird:

I started treating long-form marketing copy like code.

So now, 80% of my marketing docs: playbooks, Notion articles, lead magnets, knowledge base articles - all get created “in code” inside Cursor instead of Google Docs or Notion or ChatGPT.

Here’s why I’m sold:

→ I work iteratively, not all at once

Instead of dumping everything into one chat and hoping Claude doesn’t hallucinate, I split my doc into sections, work section-by-section (in different chats), and take control of what I accept or reject.

→ I keep my context way cleaner

If I want a previous LinkedIn post to reference for my intro, a knowledge base file to reference for a how-to, and an old playbook for a callout section, I just tag ‘em on the right.

→ Switching AI models makes a huge difference

o3 is better for brainstorming and structure, switch to Claude for a softer, more human voice. Mix and match, back and forth, and I get best-of-breed output (without copying, pasting, and breaking my context each time).

→ I have version control

Build a skeleton outline first, iterate in Cursor chat, then edit a bit manually
Tackle section 1 in its own chat, rinse and repeat
Tackle section 2 in a fresh chat, repeat again
Each part is focused, never loses context, never overwrites itself
Attach a couple of knowledge base articles to 2
Repurpose chunks from old playbooks in 3
Never polluting the main chat and completely avoiding “Context Overload Meltdown”

4️⃣ Follow-Up & Nurturing: 

If they reply, engage manually or with superwhisper's assistance.
If ghosted/not ready: Nurture mode: Low-intensity commenting and share value for 1y.

5️⃣ Non-Creators / Irrelevant Content:

If leads aren't posting or sharing irrelevant content
Personality analysis + sequence.
These are likely lower-converting but still worth a shot.

Our customer just ran the sneakiest social selling play I’ve seen all year. 
And it worked! (might steal it myself ha ha)

Not my idea, but I wish it was.

A customer of ours who is targeting Fortune 1000 execs showed me this yesterday.

They built a target list of execs and used Extrovert to track what they were posting on LinkedIn.

They set up topic monitoring so AI would flag posts in their niche. So if an exec talked about a problem their product solves, they’d know right away.

Whenever that happened, they used AI copilot to draft a thoughtful, actually good comment.

So far, this is standard “show up and be helpful” stuff. Nothing crazy yet.

But this team took it a step further - they turned those moments into their own posts.

They’d add their own take, tag the exec, and riff on the idea (not a repost).

That post would land in the exec’s notifications, obviously.

That exec commented back. Which meant the post now got shown to their audience, a bunch of people at the target company. Now our user is multi-threading, just by riffing on a post.

And because the LinkedIn algorithm sees the mutual engagement, it’s going to show more of that user’s posts to the exec (and their coworkers) from now on.

All from one comment.

Nurture at scale is a tech (and habit) problem.

I spent 18 months and tried 30+ tools getting this right. But now, we’re getting more than half our paid users from 3+ month old convos.

All tracked, all organized, all human, all the way. 

Never coming back to transactional.

Just hit 1st Product of the Week in AI on Product Hunt, 188 trials, 8 newsletter features, after completely failing our first launch. All came down to understanding these specific mechanics:

Real numbers first:
→ 188 trials (mostly early stage companies)
→ 2000+ additional website visitors in 48h
→ 5 VC/angel inquiries
→ Featured in 8 newsletters without asking
→ Slow fade during launch week

Our first attempt was a total flop. Decent engagement but zero leads. Complete waste of time.

The problem boiled down to one thing: you either get featured on the main page or you might as well not launch at all.

You can reschedule the launch, but as far as I know, it's not possible to know in advance whether you would be featured (maybe try and ask support - who knows?)

The most critical factor is the first 4 hours. Launch happens at midnight Pacific (9 am Central European) - so IMO Europe timezone folks have an advantage here. We hit 170 upvotes within four hours (you need help of the community here). Comments matter too. 

That pushed us to 1st position, and from there, everything became organic. We felt almost no competition after the first 4 hours and stayed nr1.

What most founders miss is that the newsletter packs as much punch as the main page. There are 2 of them: 
→ Daily top 10 (automated based on votes)
→ Weekly editorial picks (manual selection)

The daily newsletter is predictable - make the top 5 and you're in. Weekly one is trickier. Editors pick products manually and seem to favor B2C stuff.

Making it to the top 5 of the day gives nearly identical exposure as being No. 1.

Making it to the top 5 of the week does not give any additional edge (because the newsletter is manually curated).

Beyond the launch itself, we made three critical changes:
→ Fixed our onboarding flow beforehand
→ Set up website visitor tracking for retargeting
→ Used AI (superwhisper + custom prompts containing the product knowledge base) to respond quickly to 100+ comments
→ Were ready to answer support chats quickly (nothing too crazy here, 1 person from our side handled it)

Was it worth it? 100% yes. But it's not a silver bullet. The audience is specific, mostly early-stage SMBs and tech enthusiasts.

If that matches your target market, here's the playbook:
→ Don't launch unless you're confident you'll be featured
→ Pour everything into those first 4 hours
→ Prepare your onboarding and tracking beforehand
→ Respond genuinely to comments (speed matters)
→ Don't stress about being No. 1 vs top-5

And if your first launch fails like ours did, just wait a few weeks or months, improve your product, and try again.

You can relaunch infinite times. We waited six months, but you can probably do it sooner with a significant update or new feature.

Relationship-building feels slow & painful. But we A/B tested it anyway. Mind = blown: 51% replied vs 8% from cold outreach. Here's the data:

We run LinkedIn campaigns for Extrovert (eating our own dog food 😅). Last month, we decided to test if systematic warming up prospects with comments actually improves standard outreach.

The setup was simple:
→ 1000 prospects split into two groups
→ Same audience segments (CEOs, agencies, sales leaders)
→ Same messages and sequences
→ Only difference: one group got warmed up with comments first

Some real numbers by segment:

CEOs & Founders:
→ Cold outreach: 8.2% replied
→ After warming with comments: 51.4% replied (6.3X better!)

Agency owners:
→ Cold outreach: 11.1% replied
→ After warming with comments: 53.8% replied (4.8X jump)

Sales leaders:
→ Cold outreach: 26.9% replied
→ After warming with comments: 57.1% replied (2.1X boost)

Here's exactly how we warmed them up:

Tried cold email. Set everything up 'by the book.' 4k prospects → 7 replies → 1 demo. Sharing the whole mess so you don't repeat our mistakes:

We got greedy recently. 

Our LinkedIn outreach was working great (40% reply rate), but we thought "hey, let's add some volume with email!"

It did not go well.

Here's what we did and results we've got:

List building:
→ Started with RepVue, looking for companies with high % of outbound in their pipeline. 
→ Focused on software companies under 250 people

Surprise #1: Only found 4k companies total. Market's waaaay smaller than we thought.

The scoring setup:
→ Usually we spend quite a few $$ on lead scoring (3 step qualification system in Clay, 3.5 Sonnet, complex prompts), giving us really targeted lists for LinkedIn outbound
→ Here we decided to go lighter for volume and used basic Clay prompts to filter obvious misfits

Lead enrichment:
→ 7-person max limit per company, targeted specific job titles in Clay
→ Work emails from LeadMagic

4.1k prospects after enrichment and email verification
(Wasn't ready for how small the market actually was)

The infrastructure:
→ 13 fresh domains (Instantly managed - decided not to go too crazy with custom mailboxes)
→ 2 mailboxes per domain
→ Full month warmup (did it properly)
→ 15 emails/day per inbox (not pushing it too much)
→ Verified inbox placement with tests, all good

Sequence copy:
→ 4 separate steps (not threading)
→ Different subject lines each time
→ 4 distinct pain points
→ No personalization (yeah, I know)
→ Had our copy roasted by cold email agency founders
→ Their verdict: "Not complete shit" (thanks guys!)

Results:
→ 7 responses worth following up (Instantly calls them OPPORTUNITIES 😅)
→ 1 demo booked
→ Few "maybe we should talk" replies
→ That's... literally it

For context:
Our LinkedIn outreach (with proper warming) gets:
→ 40% reply rate (mostly positive)
→ Many prospects message us first after we connect

This isn't a "cold email is dead" post. Some folks clearly make it work. But if you're planning anything simpler than this setup... maybe, reconsider.

Because this level of effort - proper tools, clean data, decent copy, warmed domains - got us basically nowhere.

Takeaway: To win at cold email in 2025, you probably need to be 10x better than this. 

Or maybe just... play a different game.

Social media's job is to keep us scrolling. More time = more ads = more revenue.

So while we're trying to maintain relationships with prospects and stay top of mind, the feed shows viral posts, hot takes, and that one guy who posts billboard quotes 5 times a day 😅

Which is not bad per se... unless you're trying to use it for B2B relationships: 
→ staying visible to specific people
→ build trust with decision-makers
→ be a part of their convos

General "social selling" advice completely misses this reality:
→ "Just engage with prospects regularly!"
(Cool, but WHERE are their posts?)

→ "Set up alerts for key accounts!"
(Try doing this for 20+ people... notification hell)

→ "Check their profiles regularly!"
(Quick way to look like a stalker)

Even Sales Nav becomes chaos at scale:
→ Some prospects post daily
→ Others once a month
→ No way to track when you last engaged
→ Easy to over-comment or completely miss posts

This is why most commenting strategies end up like this:
→ Make a list of creators and comment daily 
(sure, gives you exposure but does not help with your prospects)

→ Before reaching out to that one person go there and comment on a couple of posts
(better than nothing but still very transactional)

If your goal is to be consistently top of mind on the longer time frame, you need a system and tools that your reps can use.

Here's a simple test: Start with just 10-15 key accounts. Track them manually for a week. You'll quickly see why this just doesn't scale.

Found the smooth way to unghost prospects 

(that actually works better than follow-ups)

Feels weird sending another "just checking in" email? Same. 

I kinda stumbled on this by accident, and now it's my go-to move that actually works. Like, really works 😅

Here's the deal:
When I feel that ONE MORE follow-up will feel awkward (you know the one), I just:
→ Find their recent posts
→ Drop some actual value in comments
→ Have a natural back-and-forth
→ Casually add "P.S. Left you a DM"

That's it. Super simple.

Why this works:
→ You're back on their radar (naturally, not like "heyyy remember me?")
→ Creates instant curiosity (everyone wants to know what's in that DM)
→ Feels smooth, not desperate (because you're actually adding value first)
→ The conversation already started (in comments, where it's public and chill)

Funny, people often reply with "Oh yeah, I was meaning to get back to you!"
(Sure you were... but hey, we're talking now 😎)

Quick note though:
This isn't some magic "first touch" hack.
You gotta actually build a tiny bit of rapport in those comments first.
Otherwise it's just another cold reach-out with extra steps.

Value first, DM second.
No value = no DM

Just realized I want AI to enhance EVERYTHING I type
Not just some. ALL OF IT. 

Posts, comments, messages, emails. Internal and external. Everyting.

Before I used to think I should carefully craft every message myself. To 'be authentic', build that 'genuine connections'

Now I'm like: WHY? 🤔
→ What so authentic in doing things in a less efficient way?
→ What is 'fake' about scaling yourself and doing more nice things better and faster?

Currently, there is only a minor % of my comms coming through AI enhancement, but I'm working to ramp it up.

E.g. I recently started using Fantom + Claude to generate killer follow ups (it's is aware of my context and voice)
→ I'm sending them ON TIME now (yooo hooo)
→ And they are great. (used to be generic or shallow all the time)

I'm using superwhisper now to dictate messages and emails
→ My messages are long and thoughtful, and I can do them on the go on my phone as well. 
→ I sometimes say "just decide how to say and structure better, what I want to say is: ..." and just ramble

I'm using Extrovert for my comments :)

I'm using Claude for my posts, articles, case studies, whatnot

But there are still LOTS of places where:
→ I'm manually TYPING like a caveman (Ooof!)
→ Wasting time on wording and structure when I know what I want to say
→ Repeating things I've said 1000 times before
(DMs, emails, chat messages... sooo many places!)

I was thinking: maybe writing without AI is like doing spreadsheet calculations by hand back in the day?

- Is someone who can't do it manually less skilled? Maybe

I'd really love to be optimistic about it and think that people won't become dumber/not genuine, but will just obtain a new tech that will supercharge written speech. Ideas will become more important, not the words themselves. 

Or maybe that's just me justifying my laziness 😂
